Previous Days Teaser -- Want More? --Next

Four young couples-the Browns, the Greens, the Whites, and the Pinks-are spending Christmas at a hotel on the South Coast. They did the same thing last year. They then arranged that every evening they should "reorganize" themselves for the purposes of the hotel dance-each husband being partnered for the evening by the wife of one of the others, while on two evenings the same combination of partnerships occurred. "A very successful idea it was, too," Mrs. Brown told me. "We stayed just long enough to exhaust every combination. I expect we shall do the same thing this year."
On the first evening Pink was partnered by Mrs. Green; on the third evening by Mrs. Brown; on the fourth evening by Mrs. White. Brown's partners were Mrs. Pink on the first evening and on the fourth; on the last three evenings his partners were Mrs. White, Mrs. Green, and Mrs. White. White paired off with Mrs. Pink on the third evening and on the seventh. On the final evening his partner was Mrs. Green. Green escorted Mrs. Pink on the second and penultimate evenings. On the fifth evening his partner was Mrs. White.
Who was Green's partner on the sixth evening?

THE SOLUTION

The catch in this problem is that it does not state explicitly on how many evenings re-grouping took place. That has to be deduced from Mrs. Browns remark that every combination of partners was exhausted. On the sixth evening Greens partner was Mrs. Brown.
