THE SOLUTION

Tuesday. Since Tom returned with more money that he lrft with, he must have gone on a day when the bank was open. So he must have gone on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday. But, he got his eyes tested, and since the eye doctor is closed on Saturday, it could not have been Saturday. He also went to the market which is closed Thursday and Friday, so that eliminates Thursday, so it must have been a Tuesday when he went to town.
