It is justifiable. Pacman is one of the best arcade games ever developed and likely the most popular classic arcade game. Ask anyone in their 20’s or 30’s who Pacman is and you’ll get this silly grin of recognition followed by an eager answer of who Pacman is. Indeed, Pacman was such a popular game that it garnered eight Guinness World Records. To mention a few, it received recognition for the "Most Successful Coin-Operated Game" and the “best known Video Game Character” outmatching Mario Brothers and Sonic the Hedgehog. Google even commemorated Pacman’s 30th anniversary in 2010 with a Google Doodle which was actually playable as a one-player or two-player game. Apparently, the entire world celebrated their passion for Pacman too, that in the succeeding days, game enthusiasts around the world logged almost 5 million hours in playing Google Doodle Pacman or 4,819,352 hours to be exact .
The classic arcade game was released by the Japanese gaming company, NAMCO Ltd., and made its debut in the United Stated through Midway Games, Inc. Its original name was “Puck Man” but the branding was shifted to Pacman when it was released for the North American market for fear that consumers might relate it to the "F" word. It went on to be the most popular game in the United States in no time. It presented innovative and revolutionary genre in arcade gaming during its time. At present, Pacman is still evolving across all various gaming platforms with sequels and everyone young and old still shows passion for it!
If you’ve never played Pacman before I am pretty sure you are keen to try out the this game. Really, the game's mechanics are easy. You eat all 240 dots and 4 power pellets in each level while avoiding the 4 ghosts namely “Blinky”, the red ghost, “Pinky”, the pink ghost, “Inkey”, the cyan ghost and “Clyde”, the orange ghost. Each dot Pacman eats yields you 10 points and each power pellet yields you 50 points. The power pellets enables you to shovel in the ghosts momentarily for a few seconds when they are in blue state. Once eaten, you will note that the ghost’s eyes go back to the center box. Elude these ghosts when they are in flashing state since this means they’re about to return to their typical state. Try and finish all 255 levels in Pacman if you can. A 256th level exists but this level contains bugs and is not playable. A player who can pass this split level has yet to emerge.
Presently, there are only 2 individuals worldwide holding a perfect game record, Billy Mitchell of Hollywood, Florida in 1999 and David Race of Beavercreek, Ohio in 2009. Do you think you can generate 3,333,360 points in Pacman with lesser time than they played? You could be the next record holder.
