Officer Luke Sharp was the first on the scene of the accident. The small car had overturned in a dry ditch. Nobody was seriously hurt, but all five occupants were badly shaken up.
"Who was driving, Luke?" asked Detective Sue Smart as soon as she arrived.
"Don't know yet," said Luke, very confused. "I've only just managed to get any sense out of two of them, so far. The two fellows and girls picked up a hitchhiker, so there were three of them sitting in the back seat and two in the front. The hitchhiker says he was sitting next to the blonde, and the girl with the brown hair was sitting next to someone she calls Jim."
He looked down at his notes and went on, "The girl named Pam said she was sitting next to the hitchhiker, and Ann was sitting next to Ben. That's all the informa­tion I've got."
"It's enough to tell me who was driving," said the detective.
